Ted Peck
 

Ted PeckThough C.E. "Ted" Peck retired as chief executive officer and chairman of The Ryland Group, Inc. in 1990, he did not retire altogether. In the early 1990s, he was an executive fellow at the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, and he served as a member of the board of directors and trustee of the Delaware Group of Funds from 1991 to 2001.

In addition to membership on the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Board of Visitors, Peck currently chairs the President's Advisory Council of Washington College in Maryland. He is also a board member of the University System of Maryland (USM) Foundation and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. In the past, he has chaired both the foundation board and the USM Chancellor's Advisory Council. He has served on the board of visitors of the University of Maryland, College Park, the University of Maryland School of Engineering, and the University of Maryland School of Law.

Peck is an active volunteer as well; he is a member of the board for the Memorial Hospital Foundation of Easton, Maryland, for the National Family Resiliency Center in Columbia, and for the Depression and Related Disorders Association in Baltimore.

Before working for Ryland, Peck was an executive vice president and board member of Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp., where he worked for more than three decades. During that time, he provided leadership in a variety of ways outside of the corporate world. He sat on the Harvard Graduate School of Design Board of Visitors, was a member of the board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and a member and later, chair of the Visiting Committee of the National Bureau of Standards.

Peck attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1943 to 1944 before joining the U.S. Army Air Force, where he served from 1944 to 1946. He completed a BS degree in economics at the University of Pennsylvania in 1949. UMUC awarded Peck an honorary doctorate in public service in 1995.
